Road trips are a great way to get closer to friends and family while making unforgettable memories. Being stuck in a car for hours on hours can get stressful but an hour or so drive is perfect. There are some awesome places an hour away from West Palm Beach in which you can make a little day trip or stay the whole weekend. Check out these places when considering your next getaway and don’t forget to pack the sunscreen.
On the outskirts of West Palm Beach lies Riviera Beach that has free parking and admission making it great for big families. At Riviera Beach, you can swim up close and personal with the friendly manatees. The manatees are in their natural environment and enjoy visitors, consider them the dogs of the sea. There is an education center if you want to learn more about animals and the environment.
Another great beach is the North Palm Beach that is 438 acres of breathtaking nature. There are many trails to hike, kayak rentals, picnics, and of course the awesome beach. What makes this beach so great is the Anastasia Limestone Rock Reef that runs along the entire length of the beach. Grab some goggles and a snorkel and explore life under the water, you’ll see turtles and all kinds of fish.
If swimming with the fishes isn’t your style check out Boca Raton Morikami Museum and Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. You can look at all the cool fish in the fish tank or explore the museum. The nature center has trails to hike, more fish tanks full of marine life, observation tower, and a butterfly exhibit.
If you are in the mood for a safari head 30 minutes away to Loxahatchee where you can drive or walk through an actual safari. There are more than 900 animals that include rhinos, giraffes, zebras, and more. Once you are done checking out all the cool animals you can head to their amusement park, water spray park, or check out the animal feeding area.
If you head an hour south you’ll reach a beautiful and peaceful Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. There is so much Japanese art and culture you can immerse yourself in. There are two different museum buildings that display traditional Japanese culture. The exhibits in the museums change multiple times a year so there is always something new. Make sure to take a stroll through the Roji-en Japanese Gardens, Bonsai Gardens, or the Garden of the Drops of Dew. To top off your visit here get lunch or dinner at a Japanese restaurant.
